PRICING GUIDE

What Does an Elevated Concrete Deck Cost in Texas?

A transparent look at what drives the price and how it compares to the alternatives.

The Short Answer

Elevated concrete decks from Wulfhe Outdoor Living start at $60 per square foot installed in the Texas Hill Country. Your actual project cost depends on several factors we’ll break down below. We provide fixed-price proposals — no ranges, no allowances, no surprise change orders.

What Drives the Cost

An elevated concrete deck is not a simple slab pour. It’s a structural system with multiple components, each of which affects the final price.

Elevation Height

A deck elevated 2–3 feet above grade requires shorter pilings and less steel than one elevated 8–12 feet. The higher the elevation, the more material and labor involved in the piling and framework stages. Hillside properties with significant grade changes typically require varying piling depths across the structure, which adds complexity.

Deck Size and Configuration

A simple rectangular deck is the most straightforward to build. L-shaped layouts, multi-level designs, wraparound configurations, and structures with integrated stairs or ramps require additional steel fabrication and concrete forming, which increases cost.

Finish Selection

A standard broom finish is the most economical concrete surface. Stamped patterns, acid stain, and exposed aggregate add cost for the additional materials and skilled labor required to achieve those finishes. The finish you choose can add $5–15 per square foot depending on complexity.

Site Conditions

Access to the build site matters. Properties with easy equipment access cost less than those requiring extended material transport. Rocky soil conditions (common in the Hill Country) can affect piling installation. Existing structures, landscaping, or utilities near the build area may require additional planning and care.

Railings and Features

Standard steel railings are included in most projects. Cable railings, custom metalwork, integrated LED lighting, built-in planters, seating walls, and other features add cost based on their scope. We spec these individually in every proposal so you know exactly what each feature adds.

Permitting and Coordination

We handle all permitting in-house at no additional charge. When stamped structural calculations are required (which they are for most elevated structures), we coordinate with a licensed structural engineer. The engineering cost is included in your proposal — it’s not an add-on surprise.

How It Compares to Alternatives

vs. Composite Decking

Composite decking (Trex, TimberTech) runs $50–$75 per square foot installed in the Hill Country, depending on the product line and deck complexity. The install price is comparable to our starting price of $60/sqft. The critical difference is what happens after installation: composite requires periodic cleaning, can fade, and has a 20–25 year lifespan. Concrete requires zero maintenance and lasts 30–50 years. Over 20 years, concrete costs less to own.

vs. Wood Decking

Pressure-treated wood decking runs $25–$45 per square foot installed. It’s the cheapest option upfront. But wood in the Hill Country needs staining every 1–2 years (~$1.50/sqft per treatment), periodic board replacement, and full replacement in 10–15 years. The 20-year total cost of ownership for a wood deck typically exceeds both composite and concrete. Wood is the most expensive option over time.

vs. Slab-on-Grade Patio

A basic concrete slab poured on grade runs $8–$15 per square foot — far less than an elevated deck. But a slab-on-grade can only be built on flat, stable ground with adequate drainage. If your property is sloped, has significant grade changes, or has terrain that makes grading impractical, a slab-on-grade isn’t an option. Elevated construction exists specifically for properties where slab-on-grade doesn’t work.
